Forget the muscly gold statue you take home from the Oscars and check out the accolade at the Bambi Awards! No sillies, we don't mean Lady Gaga dressed as a Ferrero Rocher — we're talking about the gold award in the shape of our favourite pointy-eared Disney character. How cute! They were dished out at the annual ceremony in Germany last night with the likes of Gaga, Gwyneth Paltrow and Justin Bieber cracking out their glad rags. And what glad rags they were!
No prizes for guessing it was Lady Gaga who made the biggest impact, gliding onto the red carpet in a fantastical concoction from Alexander McQueen’s mesmerising Spring / Summer 2012 collection. Her head was covered in an intricate gold cap leading to a matching bodice and cascading into a frothy cream skirt of swan-like feathers. She looks set for an almighty battle, dontcha think?
But a closer look reveals that rather than a chunky metal helmet, the headgear consists of delicate feather-shaped embroidery, which climbs up the neck and surrounds the Gaga head. AH-MAY-ZING. And there’s a gap at the back, allowing a spurt of peroxide blonde hair to peep through.
On stage, Her Gaganess went for a slightly less gob-smacking look. She performed her latest single, Marry The Night, wearing a billowing black gown and modest black cap while sitting a-top the bonnet of a car. Ooh, can we expect such dramatics for her X Factor appearance this weekend? That'd impress Mr Barlow.
But that’s not all. Lady G was awarded the aforementioned deer statuette for being The Best Pop Artist Ever, or something. And who should present it to her but the Kaiser of fashion, Karl Lagerfeld! Standing next to each other in matchy-matchy dark sunglasses and head-to-toe black, the pair look uncannily similar. Forget morphing into Donatella, could Gaga be channeling Lady Lagerfeld?
In more traditional award ceremony stylee, Gwyneth Paltrow arrived in a dazzling emerald green gown by Elie Saab. Would you look at that plunging neckline and svelte figure? We gawp. And as if all those sequins weren’t glitz enough, Gwyn added a diamond knotted necklace from Adler.
Coincidentally, there was another lady working the Green goddess vibe last night. Step forward Zoe Saldana who was at the Latin Grammy Awards in Las Vegas showcasing a similarly shimmering floor-sweeper from the same Elie Saab Spring / Summer 2012 collection. We’re umm, green with envy *chuckles*
