A new report says that there’s a decent chance the world can LITERALLY run out of wine in the next few years. This is not ideal.

According to a report from Morgan Stanley Research , the recent release of vintage wines mean that there may be an inefficient supply of wine relative to consumer demand in the coming years.
Last year featured the first shortfall in wine production in 50 years. There was an undersupply of approximately 300 cases due to both wine consumption and uses of wine in other functions, such as making vermouth.
Part of the blame comes at the hands of the US and China. The US consumes 12% of the world’s wine supply and its consumption has doubled in the last decade. Meanwhile, China has doubled its consumption TWICE in the last five years.
Our only hope is that 2013 proves to be a great year for wine production. Wine production in 2013 is at a seven year high thanks to better weather, super helpful given that wine production in 2012 was one of the worst ever.
Do you want to live in a world where only hard alcohols and beers and light alcohols and rubbing alcohols and bleach can get us drink? I hope not. Do your part and drink one less bottle of wine this year. Make the world a better place, one grapey burp at a time.
